McCain's Running Mate Has Idaho Ties

John McCain’s choice for vice president is a University of Idaho graduate and has Northwest roots. Glenn Mosley reports.

Sarah Palin began her college academics as a student at Hawaii Pacific University, transferred to North Idaho College in Coeur d’ Alene, and then  graduated from the University of Idaho in 1987.

She was a student at the University of Idaho for four semesters, concentrating on a journalism degree and a minor in political science.

In an article in the University of Idaho alumni magazine, Palin says she decided to focus on journalism in college because she was always asking everyone questions, which she is still doing today.

Palin was born in Sandpoint, Idaho, and moved to Skagway, Alaska where her father was a school teacher. She moved back to Alaska after graduating from college in 1987.

The UI put out a statement Friday saying that she joins a large number of university alumni who have gone on to distinguish themselves.
