The Oregon Parole Board decided Wednesday not to release convicted rapist Richard Gillmore. The executive director of the board, Nancy Sellers, says members listened to his victims, their families and many other sources.

Nancy Sellers: “After reviewing the entire record, the Board unanimously decided that Gillmore remains dangerous.  It’s unable to find at this time that Mr. Gillmore can be controlled in the community with supervision and treatment, so the board did defer his parole date for two years.”

Gillmore was sentenced in 1987 to at least 30 years for the rape of 13-year-old Tiffany Edens of Troutdale.

Last fall, the parole board approved his release -- despite psychological reports saying he might be a danger to the community.

Edens sued the state to keep him behind bars. Six other victims also came forward to appeal the decision.

Gillmore couldn’t be prosecuted for those crimes because of the statute of limitations.

He has now served 21 years behind bars.  Gillmore is eligible for parole again in 2010.
