The U.S. Supreme Court has declined to hear two high-profile Oregon cases. Rob Manning has more.

The so-called “Nuremberg Files” case involved “wanted” style posters featuring the names, photos, and home addresses of physicians who provided abortions.

The group responsible, American Coalition of Life Activists, argued the posters, and later, a web site, were protected free speech. But a jury disagreed in 1998, and  returned a $100 million verdict against the ACLA.

The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed the ruling four years later. The judgment amount, though, was reduced. The High Court has now rejected hearing the case for the third time.

The Supreme Court is also avoiding a case out of Jackson County. A divorced couple is fighting over whether their adolescent son should be circumsized. That case will return to a trial court, where the boy’s wishes will be heard.
