One Week Left To Register For November Election

There’s only one week left for Oregonians to register to vote. Becca Bartleson reports.

New voters have until October fourteenth to register. A valid Oregon I.D. number is required.  That's the number that appears on a driver's license, or official state ID card.

If you live in Oregon, but don't have one, the last four digits of your social security number will do.

Without any of those numbers, Oregonians can vote in state and local elections, but not for federal candidates.

Don Hamilton with the Oregon Secretary of State's office says every election is important, but this year the stakes are unusually high.

Don Hamilton: "The votes that Oregonians cast this year will have a huge effect on the way we live our lives, both as a country, as a state and as a community."

Hamilton says seventeen-year-olds can also register this year in Oregon, but only if they'll be eighteen on election day.

Registration forms can be found at many state agencies or printed off the elections division's website.

They must be postmarked by October 14th.
