Search Continues For Hiker On Mt. Adams
Richland, WA October 16, 2008 11:13 a.m.
Searchers are scouring Mount Adams for a 27-year-old man who didn’t return from his hike Sunday.
Derek Mamoyac, of Philomath, Oregon, was supposed to summit the south side of Mt. Adams.
Another hiker reported seeing Mamoyac on Sunday morning.
Alan Klise is a deputy with the Yakima County Sheriffs Office. He says searchers are doing all they can.
Alan Klise: "There are people on the ground there are mountain rescue and ground founders, which is people searching the base of the mountain as far as climbing to the top. I don’t know what air assets they have today, but they have been using helicopters and planes. And that is where we are at. We are continuing to search for him."
Mount Adams is more than 12,000 feet high. The only taller mountain in Washington State is Mount Rainier.
