Bitch Magazine Holds Auction To Keep Publishing
Portland, OR October 24, 2008 1:25 p.m.
Saturday night, the feminist artist Judy Chicago is lending her name and work to a fundraiser for Bitch Magazine. The publication moved to Portland about a year and a half ago.
Recently, it has struggled financially. Last month, an alert went out from the publishers, saying they were on their last legs. Their video went viral on YouTube, and fans donated the money needed to produce another issue.
Now, the magazine is holding an auction with Judy Chicago as the guest of honor. She became famous in the mid-1970s with her work called The Dinner Party. It celebrated female sexuality with ceramic tributes to women in history. Beth Hyams asked her why she decided to help Bitch Magazine.
Judy Chicago will be in Portland Saturday evening for an auction benefiting Bitch Magazine. It’s at Worksound Gallery in southeast Portland.
