Get Out the Vote Efforts Go Full Throttle Until Final Deadline

If you still haven’t cast your vote, the clock is ticking.  Oregonians have until 8 o’clock Tuesday night to drop their ballots off.

In the final hours before the deadline, political campaigns are working furiously to get out the vote.  Salem correspondent Chris Lehman has this election update.

Democrats and Republicans say volunteers are making phone calls and knocking on doors right up until 8 o’clock election night.

Political campaigns are pouring through the lists they’ve bought from the Secretary of State’s office of people who’ve already voted.

Sahar Wali of Barack Obama’s Oregon campaign office says she’s even offering help to people who can’t make it out of their house in time to vote.

Sahar Wali:  “We will work to help them find the resources to make sure that they can get the ballot in.”

The campaigns are past the point of making their case about which candidate is the better choice.  Brianne Hyder is with the Oregon Republican Party.

Brianne Hyder:   “Right now we are just focused on Republicans returning their ballots.”

Republicans have been doing that at a considerably slower pace than Democrats.  Of the 2.2 million Oregonians registered to vote, 55 percent have cast their vote so far.

Historically more people vote on the last day than any other single day.
