With wife Terry at his side, Rossi addressed a room full of reporters and cameras. He managed to crack a few jokes, but overall the mood was subdued. He said he had just hung up the phone with Gregoire.
Dino Rossi: “A few minutes ago I called Christine Gregoire to congratulate her on her victory and I also told her I want to offer my services or help. I want her to be successful as governor.”
Rossi also said he and his family would pray for Gregoire. Rossi called his campaign “fantastic” and noted that he outpolled John McCain in Washington State.
He credits so-called Dinocrats and young voters who split their tickets, voting for Obama and for him.
Rossi reminded reporters that Gregoire had made a promise not to raise taxes to balance the state budget. He said he will go back to being a businessman and a father.
Dino Rossi: “Some good things are going to be happening for the Rossi family. I’m going to be home for dinner tonight and I’m going to be home for dinner tomorrow night. That’s a good thing especially when you have four small children.”
Rossi says he has no intention of running for public office again.
