TriMet Increases Service On More Than A Dozen Routes
Portland, OR December 1, 2008 6 a.m.
TriMet has increased service on 13 bus routes and the Blue Line MAX train. The changes took effect Sunday.
Becca Bartleson reports.
After months of record ridership, TriMet decided to add more buses to certain routes.
13 of 93 routes were affected.
The Blue Line MAX also has more trains running during the busiest times of day.
Peggy LaPoint is with TriMet. She says the transportation system can’t afford to increase all service so it’s focusing on the most crowded routes.
LaPoint says customers will notice more space on buses and the MAX blue line immediately.
LaPoint: "As you get closer to downtown you see, if you’re heading inbound in the morning, you see the buses getting more and more crowding. And what this will do is it will help relieve that crowding and provide more seating for folks. It’s just a way to have a more comfortable ride."
Four additional bus routes had their schedules adjusted to make transferring easier. The added TriMet service will not affect current fares.
