State Police Will Roll Out Mobile DUI Processing Center For Oregon Civil War Game
Portland, OR November 28, 2008 11:42 a.m.
Fans are mobilizing for Saturday's Civil War football matchup in Corvallis. The annual Oregon-Oregon State matchup is always a big game, but this year stakes are especially high for the Beavers, whose Rose Bowl appearance hangs in the balance.
The Oregon State Police say they're well prepared for the influx of festive fans. Lieutenant Jeff Lanz says the Department has made a new tool out of a traditional tailgate vehicle.
Lanz: "It's a big RV. I think it's actually a Winnebago. It's called our Mobile DUI Processing Center. Inside it was three or four intoxilizers."
Using the mobile unit, the state police can administer DUI tests in the field, without creating a backlog in local jails. The net effect is the same, though. If drivers are over the legal limit, they'll get cited.
Lanz encouraged people to use common sense, and not let the celebrations get out of control.
Fifty two troopers will assist Corvallis and campus police at the game, and additional staff will keep an eye on the roads leading in and out of town for the 4 p.m. game.
