New Zealand Company Expanding In Portland
Portland, OR December 1, 2008 3:24 p.m.
A New Zealand company moved to its new North American headquarters in Northwest Portland Monday. Becca Bartleson reports.
Icebreaker is moving from its temporary location in the Pearl district to a much larger Northwest location.
The company’s North American headquarters opened in Portland last February.
Now the outdoor apparel business will have an energy efficient building to call home.
Deb Boswell works for Icebreaker. She says the company originally chose Portland because of the city’s sustainable mindset.
Boswell says the new building will allow the business to expand and hire more employees over the next few years.
Deb Boswell: "We’re nice and roomy down here at the moment and we’ve done that on purpose. We know that the team will expand significantly over the next two to three years so it was definitely built with the future in mind."
Boswell says the company hopes to earn a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design -- or LEED -- certification for the new building next year.
