Sheriff Giusto To Comment On Goldschmidt Report
Portland, OR October 31, 2007 2:25 p.m.
The embattled sheriff of Multnomah County, Bernie Giusto, has agreed to comment about a preliminary report, released by the state this week. The report suggested Giusto may have lied about his knowledge of the sexual abuse of a girl by former governor Neil Goldschmidt. Kristian Foden-Vencil reports.
The Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training released the draft report after freedom of information requests were filed by The Portland Tribune and The Oregonian. The agency warned people not to jump to conclusions about Giusto until the report is finished, but it does suggest he knew a lot more about Goldschmidt’s crimes than he has let on.
News organizations have been clamoring for Giusto to comment since the agency began investigating the issue. His office has now set up a press conference for Thursday morning and said it will not comment until then.
